As part of Kumamoto International School’s PYP World Culture Day, our Grade 6 students proudly presented William Shakespeare’s The Tempest. From the creative costumes and detailed stage designs to the carefully crafted props, the students demonstrated remarkable talent, dedication, and understanding of the play. It was a joy to see parents, teachers, and fellow students come together to celebrate this outstanding performance and witness the hard work and creativity that brought this timeless masterpiece to life.

Today, July 14, the PYP students of Kumamoto International School celebrated the culmination of the term with our annual World Culture Day! 🌏

From Grades 1 to 6, students proudly showcased interactive and engaging presentations, sharing their learning, creativity, and appreciation for cultures from around the world. We were delighted to welcome parents and guardians to our classrooms and are grateful for their continued support and encouragement.

A special highlight of the day was our Grade 6 students’ performance of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest—stay tuned for that in an upcoming post!

Big news about the future of KIS. 🌱

Later this summer, construction begins on a major expansion of our campus. Construction is scheduled to finish in December 2027 — and the new facilities will let us do things for our students we simply can`t do today.

Top of the list: hot, fresh lunches cooked on campus. We`ve wanted this for our students for a long time.

Here`s what`s coming:
🍽️ A cafeteria and onsite kitchen — fresh, hot lunches made here every day
🏃 An athletic field for sport, PE, recess, and outdoor play
📝 A dedicated examination and testing room
🚗 New parking with direct access to Kokutai-dōro (国体道路)
🪑 More outdoor seating for our Junior High and High School students for eating and socializing
🌦️ A fully enclosed walkway to our main building, so students stay comfortable in any weather

All of it on a campus growing to nearly 10,000㎡ (3,000坪). Our current building stays right where it is — the new grounds sit alongside it, joined by that covered walkway.

None of this happens without the trust our families place in us. Every step KIS has taken, we`ve taken because parents chose us and stayed with us as we grew. Thank you.

この夏の終わりごろ、キャンパスの大規模な拡張工事が始まります。工事は2027年12月に完了予定です。新しい施設では、今はまだできないことが、これから可能になります。

まず実現したいのは、毎日校内で調理する、あたたかい給食です。長いあいだ、子どもたちのために願ってきたことです。

新しく加わるもの――
🍽️ カフェテリアと調理室（毎日、校内であたたかい給食を用意します）
🏃 グラウンド（サッカー・体育・休み時間・外遊びに）
📝 試験専用の教室
🚗 国体道路へ直接アクセスできる駐車場
🪑 中等部・高等部の生徒が食事や交流を楽しめる屋外席
🌦️ 本校舎とつながる屋根付きの通路（どんな天気でも快適に移動できます）

学校用地は約10,000㎡（3,000坪）に広がります。現在の校舎はそのまま、すぐ隣に新しい敷地が加わり、屋根付きの通路でつながります。

ここまで歩んでこられたのは、保護者の皆さまの信頼があったからです。KISが進めてきた一歩一歩は、皆さまがKISを選び、支え続けてくださったからこそ実現しました。心より感謝申し上げます。

A Glimpse Into Our Week at KIS ✨

From strategic chess matches during break time to staying active with indoor running in our air-conditioned arena, every day at KIS is filled with opportunities to learn, move, and grow.

Yesterday, July 7th, our Jupiter students from KIS Picasso Preschool visited Kumamoto International School to get a glimpse of life as an elementary student! Guided by our Grade 3 and Grade 6 students, they explored classrooms, activities, and the school spirit they will soon join. We can’t wait to welcome them as Grade 1 students next year!

As part of our Future Focus Programme, organised by the KIS University Counselling Team, students had the wonderful opportunity to attend the IB University Fair 2026: Japan at Ritsumeikan University Osaka Ibaraki Campus.

Some students travelled with KIS staff, while others attended together with their parents as part of this school opportunity. Throughout the event, students were able to speak directly with university representatives, explore a wide range of academic pathways, and gain a clearer understanding of the opportunities available to IB students in Japan and around the world.

This experience encouraged students to look beyond the classroom and begin imagining the many possibilities ahead of them. By asking questions, discovering new options, and connecting with universities, our students took an important step in thinking about their futures with confidence, curiosity, and ambition.
